Simply Breathing You

Breathing Practice

Simply Breathing You is a quiet practice of returning to the breath without trying to change it. No fixing, no forcing—just noticing the body breathing and allowing yourself to be exactly where you are in your moment.

Simply Breathing You

I’m rereading James Nestor’s Breath; it’s so good, and apparently that is all it takes to send me down another rabbit hole. I’ve been thinking so much about breathing lately—not complicated breathwork, not another technique to master, but the thing we do somewhere around 20,000 times a day without giving it much thought.

Last Wednesday, I began the meditation I was teaching with some intentional breathwork. We spent time with diaphragmatic breathing before moving into the actual meditation, and I watched my students and the room change. They settled more deeply into their bodies and seemed to be able to move into the practice with less effort. It reminded me how often I use the breath as an entry point, and how easy it is to underestimate what happens physiologically when we do.
